To Bayern It Is: Guardialo takes over as German club's manager

Bundesliga club Bayern Munich have confirmed that they have signed Pep Guardiola, the former Barcelona boss, as their manager.

The Spaniard signed a three-year contract with the club, and will replace current Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes, who will retire at the end of the season. The move comes seven months after Guardiola left the Nou Camp. The Catalans won a splendid 14 trophies under the tactician.

from The Bleacher Report
Cheif executive of Bayern Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, "He is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can make not just Bayern, but all of German football shine."

9 points clear of rivals Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich have won only three of their last 6 matches, with 1 loss in the league.

There was speculation that Guardiola was linked to Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. The Spaniard, who moved to Manhattan in New York after leaving Barcelona, seemed keen on a role at an English club. Guardiola had been offered lucrative contracts from Chelsea, led by Blues owner Roman Abramovich's dream to sign him. It came to many as a surprise when he decided on Bayern, but former Bayern and England player Owen Hargreaves said: "People look at the glamour and the global appeal of the Premier League but in terms of quality of players, facilities and stadiums, Germany is the right destination for him. The midfielder continued, "Bayern is the Manchester United of Germany - both are the biggest clubs in their country and Bayern are up there with the top five clubs in the world."

Rio Ferdinand also gave his opinion on the news, tweeting that Guardiola probably chose Bayern Munich over other clubs because of almost complete guarentee of competing in the Champions League, along with other factors like club stability and job security.

Surely more eyes will turn to German football with the arrival of Guardiola.
