Japan Defeated
Japan's national team were defeated by the South Korean team in a friendly that took place at the Saitama Stadium in Japan. There was a crowd of nearly 58,000, a disappointed home crowd. Park Ji Sung scored his team's first goal and Park Chu Young scored a late penalty for South Korea. Japan coach Takeshi Okada is in danger of being sacked after losing may friendly games already. Their next few games will be against England, Austria (on Sunday), Ivory Coast, and Switzerland on June 4, before they depart for South Africa. They will play Cameroon in Mangaung on June 14 which will open their campaign.
New Zealand Lose
Brett Holman's late strike (four minutes into stoppage time) gave Australia a 2-1 win over neighbours New Zealand in a warm-up match yesterday. They lifted more than 55,000 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground into a frenzy after they scored the late winner.
Milito Likely to Sit
Diego Milito, who scored both goals in Inter Milan's Championship League final victory over Bayern Munich, will likely be warming the bench at the World Cup after Argentina coach Diego Maradona said he wil play three fowards, Lionel Messi, Higuain, and Carlos Tevez. Milito, Sergio Aguero, and Martin Palermo look likely to be reserves.
