Match Reports
Uruguay 2 Netherlands 3 Report (semi-finals)
Oh no, the World Cup now belongs to Europe again! That is what I said after Uruguay lost to Netherlands in their semi-final tie at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. Netherlands, the only unbeaten side left in the World Cup, got goals in the 18th, 70th, and 73rd minute. This time, Arjen Robben finally got a goal! He could play the match after some injury concerns. Although Netherlands have not lost, they were outplayed in the first 45 minutes against Brazil, frustrated by the Japanese, and were given a scare by Cameroon. Against Uruguay, they had much more possension but could not make full use of it. Giovanni van Bronckhorst scored Oranje's first goal, with a spectacular 40 metres shot that Fernando Muslera almost saved. Aletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan equalised with another long-range strike. A goal from Wesley Sneijder and another from Robben secured the Dutch's win, but they let Maximiliano Pereira score an extra-time goal for Uruguay. If they let Spain score in the end like this at the Final, all I can say is, good game.
