Anfield totally erupted yesterday, a sea of red with its thunderous cheering and chanting. Anfield has always been a wonderful stadium, with many memories of great games.
This game was one Liverpool fans would not forget.
Maxi Rodriguez scored a hat-trick, putting himself at the right places at the right time. Dirk Kuyt scored his 7th goal in 6 league matches, while substitute Joe Cole got a lucky goal. Even with Andy Caroll injured, all this was achieved!
The first goal came when a Kuyt shot was spilled into Rodriguez's path by goalkeeper Ben Foster. In the 23rd minute, Jose Reina picked out Raul Meireles who flicked into the path of Luis Suarez. Foster saved Suarez's shot it was directed to Kuyt, who took 2 tries to get the goal. Rodriguez scored his 2nd goal (Liverpool's 3rd) in the 66th minute with a cross from Suarez. Rodriguez put the cherry on his cake (Liverpool's 4th) after collecting Suarez's 73rd minute pass. Rodriguez shot it low at goalkeeper Colin Doyle (Ben Foster was replaced by Colin Doyle after injuring himself) who did not get a good grip on it. Meireles put the ball back to Rodriguez who comfortably slotted it into the back of the goal. Cole scored the last goal, cutting in from the right and kicking it towards the far post with a deflection from the defender.
