Brendan Rodgers takes over

Brendan Rodgers was unveiled as Liverpool's new manager after Kenny Dalglish was sacked last month. He signed a three-year contract with the Reds, who were last season's Carling Cup winners. He managed Swansea to a surprise 11th-place last season. Rodgers had led Swansea in the 2010-2011 season to the Play-Off Final against his old club Reading, which they defeated 4-2 to become the first Welsh team to gain promotion to the Premier League. John W. Henry, the club's principle owner through its parent company, Fenway Sports Group, announced that "Brendan Rodgers's appointment today as manager of Liverpool Football Club is one of the most important steps we will take in building the kind of club on and off the pitch supporters can be excited about." Rodger's appointment was also endorsed by Jose Mourinho, who had headhunted Rodgers to coach the Chelsea youth team in 2004.

In a press-conference yesterday, Rodgers admitted that Liverpool had not won the Premier League title in 20 years, and that it would be tough for them to win it now. However, he assured that the journey towards that "begins today". He also stated that he accepted the job when he was said to be Liverpool's first-choice to replace Dalglish.
