Unable to watch World Cup?

by Wong Yang

Everyone is waiting for the World Cup in South Africa to start on June 11. But who will be able to watch it? Who won't be able to watch it?

Most people in Singapore might not, as they refuse to join Starhub and Singtel's $70.62 early bird offer. The early bird offer is five times the price of the amount of money Singaporeans had to pay for the 2006 Germany World Cup! Football is the most popular sport in Singapore, the most played sport here too, and it is the love of many people. How are we supposed to enjoy the World Cup if the price we had to pay for it is so expensive. Although many say they love football so much that they will pay whatever amount to watch it, $70 is just WAY too expensive.

Going to Malaysia and sitting in the kopitiam to watch it will be an option for many of us, and if we live in HDB flats , we might be able to get the Malaysia channels's signals, those that will be showing all 64 matches live. But remember four years ago, for the 2006 World Cup, when many Singaporeans used the Malaysia channels to watch it? Starhub's signals (waves) blocked out the RTM1 and RCTI signals, and those people ended up not being able to watch it. So now, what is the best idea? You can go to footytube to watch the highlights, but those are not live! Some organisations might organize parties/meets to watch the matches. You can also try online websites that might stream the World Cup for a cheaper price or for free. One site that I've found is http://http://watchworldcuponline.net/. Just click on the Full Schedule picture and it will show the World Cup schedule. On the left of each match, there will be a link that says, Stream This Game. The streaming will only start in June, so when you click it now, nothing will pop out.

GOOD LUCK finding a way to watch the 2010 South Africa World Cup!
